A social network is extracted from each recording and it is analyzed in order to detect the role of each speaker (e.g. anchorman, guest, etc.). The role is then used as a criterion to select the segments that are more representative of the recording content. The results show that the length of the recordings can be reduced by more than 90 percent while still preserving most of the information about their content.}, pdf = {https://publications.idiap.ch/attachments/papers/2006/vinciarelli-icpr-2-2006.pdf}, postscript = {ftp://ftp.idiap.ch/pub/papers/2006/vinciarelli-icpr-2-2006.ps.gz}, ipdmembership={vision}, } crossreferenced publications: @TECHREPORT{vinciarelli:rr06-27, author = {Vinciarelli, Alessandro}, projects = {Idiap}, title = {Sociometry Based Multiparty Audio Recordings Summarization}, type = {Idiap-RR}, number = {Idiap-RR-27-2006}, year = {2006}, institution = {IDIAP}, note = {Published in Proceedings of International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2006)}, abstract = {This paper shows how Social Network Analysis, the study of relational data in specific social environments, can be used to summarize multiparty radio news recordings.
